Join the Ballarat East Town Hall Gardens Revitalisation Group to help restore and celebrate the history and significance of the Ballarat East Town Hall Gardens, adjacent to Barkly Square, Barkly Street, Ballarat East.

Supported in its establishment by the City of Ballarat, this Ballarat East Neighbourhood House group aims to engage volunteers to spend time improving the Gardens and running community events and activities in this beautiful space.

The group's first major event, on the weekend of 21 and 22 May 2022, is the Oasis in the Desert celebration at Barkly Square and the surrounding gardens, Barkly Street, Ballarat East. This is part of the City of Ballarat's Heritage Festival calendar of events.

Location & getting there

The Garden Revitalisation Group meetings and activities are held at Barkly Square, 25-39 Barkly Street, Ballarat East. 

Walking: The entrance for the wonderful A Pot of Courage cafe is located inside of Barkly Square at 25-39 Barkly Street, Ballarat East. Follow the A Pot of Courage signs.
Driving: You can park on Barkly Street, or behind the building in the car park or on the street along Princes Street North. You can access Princes Street North from Eureka Street or Barkly Street.
Bus: There are bus stops close to Barkly Square.
Bicycle: There is bike parking at Barkly Square

Public toilets are available within Barkly Square.

Conditions of participation

  • Please read the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House Activity Terms and Conditions. You will be asked to agree to these upon registration for this activity.
  • All participants in Ballarat East Neighbourhood House activities must follow the current Statewide COVID-Safe principles.
  • If you are feeling unwell and/or have cold/flu symptoms please do not come to the activity.
  • Please sanitise your hands upon entry to and exit from Barkly Square. Hand sanitiser will be available.
  • Keep at least 1.5 metres from other people in the activity.
  • Bring your own drink bottle. A Pot of Courage cafe at Barkly Square will be open if you would like to purchase hot drinks and food.
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before the activity starts to allow time to complete any paperwork.
  • If you have any injuries or issues which may affect your ability to partipate fully in the activity, please arrive early and discuss with a member of the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House team.
