Living at home longer

Our health needs change as we age, but one thing stays the same: our desire to remain living in our own home.

"Living at home for longer" is a free seminar that provides advice, tips and insights on how to continue living in your own home well into your senior years.

The 45-minute seminar is tailored for those aged over 65 years and their families/carers, who want to know how to access government-funded subsidies to help them live happily at home for longer. The seminar also provides advice on navigating the ‘My Aged Care’ system.

Topics Covered include:

  • My Aged Care (What is it? Registration process. How to use it as you age.)
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program (How to access. RAS assessment. Eligibility. Cost. Services available.)
  • Home Care Packages (How to access. ACAS assessment. Wait times. Cost. Available services. Finding a provider.)

These Federal Government funded home services are highly subsidised for the user and in many cases are free for full pensioners and part pensioners. Some of the things that the Commonwealth Home Support Program and Home Care Packages may be able to assist with include:

  • Personal Care
  • Home maintenance
  • Window and Gutter cleaning
  • Meals
  • Rails and modifications (ramps etc)
  • House cleaning
  • Podiatry
  • Physiotherapy
  • Chiropractic
  • Mobility aids
  • Transport
  • Social inclusion
  • Pharmacy items
