SRV logoSeniors Rights Victoria invite you to participate in Community Leadership Training to prevent elder abuse.

The Australian Government’s recent National Elder Abuse Prevalence Study estimated that around 15% of the population aged 65 and over, living in the community (rather than residential care) have experienced elder abuse in the past 12 months.

Most people who experience elder abuse try to manage it themselves and don't seek help or advice. Some might not even realise that what they are experiencing is abuse.

Seniors Rights Victoria wants to help people reduce the risk of elder abuse by understanding their rights and increasing knowledge on the ways to plan ahead.

Senior's Rights Victoria are working with the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House to offer free training to community leaders, so that you can share this important information with your organisations, groups, and in your community.

An expert from Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) will help you increase your knowledge and skills, in order to share information on the following:

A brief overview of ageism and how it can be a factor in elder abuse

  1. What elder abuse is
  2. Different types of elder abuse
  3. Signs of abuse
  4. Reducing the risk of elder abuse
  5. Legal and non-legal options when abuse occurs
  6. What SRV is, what they do, how they help, and when to call
  7. What to expect when you call SRV
  8. Who to call for more urgent matters or concerns
  9. Tips and strategies on presenting the above information

There will be an opportunity for role playing how to respond to questions and encourage discussion.

The session will be followed by a delicious afternoon tea and time for questions, to ensure you feel confident and comfortable presenting to others.

Dates for sessions in 2023 to be confirmed.
